2003 NCAA Week 6

Free Picks

Thursday

Miami/West Va. OVER 53.5.  2 Units.  Miami's offense will run all over West Virginia and West Virginia will still score as well.  The margin will be in the 20's but West Virginia should be able to get at least 17 points to Miami's at least 40.

Saturday

Georgia (-12.5) over Alabama.  2 Units.  The honeymoon is over and Shula may have a short stay after losing to Arkansas in 2OT last week.  Considering they only went 2-3 at home they can’t expect the road to be friendlier.

Cal (+1.5) over Oregon St.  2 Unit.  Can the Fighting Tedfords do it again this week?  Why not, they have faced a tough schedule that prepared them for the huge upset of USC last week.  The Beavers were upset in their only other road trip this season and this should happen again.

Troy St. (+27.5) over Nebraska.  2 Units.  Troy State is fresh off an upset of Marshall last week and plays tougher football then things appear.  At 4-0 for the first time in a while Nebraska will just want to put this in the win column and play some backups as opposed to a cremation.

Paid Picks

Wisconsin (-1.5) over Penn State.  3 Units.  Penn State failed last week against Minnesota as a home dog and they will lose again this week.  Wisconsin has been up and down but will tear apart Penn State weak defensive unit.

Northwestern (+12) over Minnesota.  2 Units.  Minnesota won last week but still has not really played a decent team this season.  Northwestern could be a decent team, but the execution just is not there on offense.  This game could be a repeat of last year’s wild shootout in the dome.  We think the home team will keep it close.

Virgina (-8.5) over North Carolina.  3 Units.  Last week marked Virginia QB Schaub’s triumphant return and he should be even better against the appropriately named Tar Heel defense since they play like their heels are stuck in tar.

Vanderbilt (+4.5) over Mississippi St.  2 Unit.  Miss St. HC Sherrill is another old timer on his last legs and a loss to Vandy is what will seal his fate.  Vanderbilt has a young team with enough talent to win, they just need a few breaks.  Vandy on average out gains their opponents by 30 ypg, while Miss St. is out gained by almost 80.

Purdue (-14) over Illinois.  3 Units.  You hate to see teams that have one talented played who is single handedly trying to right a sinking ship, and that player is the Illini QB who has fought hard in losses to all the Div I teams they have faced this season.  The Purdue defense is impressive and should hold the fort in a big win.

Oklahoma (-21) over Iowa St.  3 Units.  Oklahoma is just too good.  Two weeks ago they discovered new ways to kill a team with a player returning three punts for TDs against UCLA.  Iowa St. is in rebuilding mode or falling back into the corn field their program recently sprung out from.

Texas Tech (-5) over Texas A&M.  3 Units.  Texas Tech is an offensive powerhouse and if A&M could not stop Pitt then this game will be ugly.  A&M has been a terrible spread team over their last ten games and playing at home has not helped.

Northern Ill. (-21.5) over Ohio U.  3 Units.  Ohio has been trounced all season and this will be another rough day for them.  The Huskies are deservedly ranked in the TOP 25 and now have to keep things going in conference play.  This team is too experienced for a let down this week.
