Thursday  8/27

Akron (-11) over Kent St.  1 Unit.  Akron finished the season strong last year and should have that to build on with their whole offense returning.  This is an interesting game because these arch rivals (yes they do exist in the MAC) played each other in the last game of 2002.  Kent slipped last season and has not shows signs of coming back again.  Akron will make this their 7th straight win in the series.

BYU (-3.5) over Georgia Tech.  2 Units.  BYU returns most of a team last year that limped through a rebuilding season and is much stronger and more experienced.  Georgia Tech is going to traveling to high altitude for their first time and is not a very stable team at the moment.  There is discontent with the struggling AJ Suggs at QB and their best returning tailback has left the team.  The Cougars are too strong at home here.

Saturday 8/29

Wisconsin (-3) over W. Virginia.  2 Units.  Wisconsin comes into Morgantown with something to prove this season.  They have 16 starters back and a new QB coming in with several starts under his belt as well.  West Virginia will have a tough time handling the balanced Badger offense with only 4 starters back on D which will have a totally new line.

Miami-OH (+10.5) over Iowa.  2 Units.  This series has produced some great games the last two years, but Iowa looks to have slipped in the off season with almost no one returning on offense and nothing great sitting on the bench to step up.  This game is huge for Miami since they love the chance to beat the Big Ten.  Iowa is laying too many points and is ripe for the upset on their home turf.

Minnesota (-30.5) over Tulsa.  1 Unit.  We hate to give this many points but Tulsa is that bad and maybe even worse again this season.  They really should be relegated to playing Rutgers and Buffalo.  Minnesota should run and pass all over this team as they like to do against the cream puffs they schedule for the pre-conference season.

San Jose St. (+24) over Florida. 2 Units.  When a team has already played a game in college football they have a huge advantage, this week SJSU will be in that position against a Florida team that is bringing tons of inexperienced players on both sides of the ball.  Florida is not yet a good enough team to lay this many points against a team with a potent passing offense.

Northwestern (-6) over Kansas.  2 Units.  Northwestern had a tale of two seasons in 2002, with Brett Basenez as starter and without.  The Cats ran a potent offense with him in the lineup that will return almost all of its weapons from last season.

Mississippi State (+4) over Oregon.  2 Units.  The Ducks have started to fall back to where they spent most of the 70's and 80's in football, in the abyss.  Mississippi St. has disappointed the last few seasons but may have finally the corner when they found a new QB to finish the season.

UConn (-5.5) over Indiana.  2 Units.  Conn moves into their new stadium and they have a strong team to fill it.  They return 15 started from a solid team last season and should be even better this year with better recruits that the program is attracting.

Early College Football Play of the Year!!!

Rice (+5.5) over Houston.  4 Stars!!!

Somewhere the odds makers have missed the boat on this play.  Houston's two returning potential star QBs are out, one ineligible and one transferred leaving them no one with experience at the helm under a new HC in his first head coaching position.  None of the off season publications or preseason reviews have taken this roster change into account.  The line should be the other way in this game.  In addition, Rice lost this game last year and would love to show up their local rival.

Monday 9/1

Cincinnati (-8) over East Carolina.  2 Units.  What's Labor Day or any holiday without some football.  Cincinnati comes into this game with some key players back from last season and should be in for another solid CUSA season.  East Carolina has a new head coach and their leading rusher is out for the season with an injury.  The homer has won 10 of the last 12 in this series and that will definitely happen again.
