Thursdays Pick N.C. State at Indiana. Under 65. 2 Stars. This game should be an ugly game for both teams since neither has played yet. N.C. State has lost offensive guru Norm Chow who tutored their frosh QB to a great season out of nowhere and lost KR/WR Koren Robinson early to the pros. Indiana has moved star athlete Antwaan Randle El away from playing QB and really lost the spark that makes them dangerous. He was part of the reason they scored lots of point but gave up more because of the turnovers from his and the offense's erratic play. Look for a lower scoring affair. Fridays Pick Northwestern (-3) over UNLV. 5 Stars. UNLV has to be demoralized after letting a game totally slip away from their hands at Arkansas. Everything was terrible for UNLV except the defense. But who can't defend Arkansas, they are like a JV squad on offense. Northwestern will leave UNLV will jaws dropped, because they will have no idea what each play is going to be. Northwestern is looking forward to finally playing more then any other team in the country so they can put the tragic death of Rashidi Wheeler behind them. Look for NU to win by at least 14. Saturday's Picks Illinois (-19) over Northern Illinois. 3 Stars. If Illinois were not so inconsistent on offense over the past two seasons, they would be a 4 or 5 star pick. NIU looked really bad in last week's victory over South Florida, and should have an even tougher time against Illinois. NIU's weakness at offensive line and defensively against the pass will ensure their quick demise against their in-state foe. Iowa (-13.5) over Miami, Ohio. 2 Stars. Iowa's improvement down the stretch run of last season has carried over to 2001 with their demolition of Kent last week. Another stronger MAC foe comes to town this week in Miami, OH. Spending two weeks in a row on the road against Big Ten teams is tough and Miami will not cover this week. UCLA (-13) at Kansas. 3 Stars. UCLA was out gained but came back to win on the road in a tough confidence builder for UCLA. Kansas had a lackluster opening game and has not show any potential over the past year that they can compete against UCLA. Alabama at Vanderbilt. Over 45.5. 3 Stars. Vanderbilt has a decent offense but no defense as they showed last week against MTSU. Although Alabama should win and cover, the real play in the over because Alabama's offense is awake this year as shown by their strong yardage output against UCLA last week. Both teams will score often in the battle which will probably see a final somewhere in the 60's. Ole Miss (+5.5) at Auburn. 2 Stars. We love it when a Manning becomes a starting quarterback and Eli has been great so far. He will face a tougher defense this week in Auburn that surprisingly shut down Ball State last week. Ole Miss will still be able to score with its balanced offense, but were are not sure about the Auburn O against a real team. Middle Tennessee State U. (-13.5) over Troy St. 3 Stars. Remember last season when all of you asked us where we found Boise St, well meet the new Boise St., MTSU. The Blue Raiders opened strong with a win over Vanderbilt on the road. MTSU will be back at home with strong momentum and a juggernaut offense which will lead them to a strong victory against a new Div. 1A team. Rice (-9) over Duke. 3 Stars. Rice started out the season running well in their traditional wishbone beating Houston on the road. Duke sucked as usual, and it really does not make a difference that they were playing Florida State, they still suck. Rice will find the large holes in the Swiss cheese that is Duke's defense. Washington State (-4.5) over Boise State. 5 Stars. Does anyone who makes these lines realize that there is a new HC and a new QB in Boise. The Boise Potatoes are not the same team that they have been the past 3 seasons. Neither is Washing State, they are stacked this season on offense and could be a bowl team for the first time years. As we said last week, they were the youngest team in the Pac 10 last year and this year they are oldest, based on playing experience. Look for another romp this week. |
