Bowls 2002 Bowls in order by date
New Orleans Bowl - Free Cincinnati/North Texas under 45. 1 Unit. Both teams has strong defense and North Texas has very little offensive firepower. For North Texas to win they need a low scoring ugly battle. New Orleans Bowl - Paid Cincinnati (-8) over North Texas. 3 Units. Cincinnati has turned things around to finish the year quite strongly. They have won with solid all around play, aided by a +13 TO ratio over the past 6 games, going 5-1 SU and ATS. North Texas won 6 straight SU in conference, but remember this is the Sun Belt conference. After losing in the Motor City Bowl the last two years, Cincinnati should get a big win, especially with only having about 12 days between this game and their last win. GMAC Mobile Bowl - Both Paid Marshall (-2.5) over Louisville. 2 Units. Marshall has put a nice run together since Leftwich got hurt several weeks ago and now he is back running the show. Louisville has a disappointed this season with the lack of an offensive line and a running game. Marshall has won and covered 4 straight bowl games and has a crew that is experienced with bowl pressure. In addition they are playing after a mere 11 layoff so they will not be stale. Louisville has been sitting around for an extra week. This game should have lots of points put on the board, but Louisville does not have the horses to keep up. Marshall/Louisville Over 62. 2 Units. This game will have both teams scoring in the thirties since both teams QB will be playing well for the NFL scouts in attendance. Tangerine Bowl 12-23-02 - Paid 2 Team 6 point teaser: Clemson (+11) and Over 60. 2 Units. Both teams here have lots of offensive power, but Clemson improved as the season went on while Texas Tech performed as expected. HC Bowden needs this win to keep the Clemson people on his side as the coach. Las Vegas Bowl 12-25-02 - Paid New Mexico (+11) over UCLA. 3 Units. UCLA was horrible this season and their coach got canned because of it. New Mexico fought to keep their coach and went 5-2 SU and 6-1 ATS to finish off the season. New Mexico handled adversity well during the season when at one point they lost their first and second string QBs. This group at New Mex had a top 20 defense two years in row before this season when they slipped early and came on over the last 4 weeks. Too many points for UCLA to give. Hawaii Bowl 12-25-02 - Paid Hawaii (-12) over Tulane. 2 Units. Hawaii gets to play at home and should have a great crowd on hand, while Tulane has to take the long trip from the mainland. Tulane does not have the offense to keep up with the potent Hawaii passing that should put on a show since they will actually be on National TV. Motor City Bowl 12-26-02 - Paid Toledo/Boston College over 59. 2 Units. Down the stretch both teams had huge offensive performances which should make this game high scoring show. Toledo's offense is potent but they can't stop anyone, and BC's defense will be flat. Motor City Bowl 12-26-02 - Free Toledo (+4) over Boston College. 2 Units. Familiar territory after winning here last year and the short trip for the fans give Toledo the edge. Toledo is thrilled to be here as played the toughest team in the MAC down the stretch winning 4 in row SU and ATS before falling narrowly to Marshall in the conference title game. Boston College had a strange year where they started 0-4 SU in the Big East Conference, but shocked Notre Dame with a big upset in the same season. Although BC fared better on the scoreboard against their common opponents they both beat Central Mich and lost to Pitt, this game does not mean much to BC and it will show with a loss. Insight Bowl 12-26-02 - Paid Pitt (+2.5) over Oregon St. 2 Units. Both teams had nice seasons this year when not all that much was expected. Pitt tended to play better in the tough games and their defense squashed the run all year. Pitt also wants to prove that they are legit. Houston Bowl 12/27/02 - Free Oklahoma State (-7.5) over Southern Miss. 2 Units. This team is happy to be here and it will show in a solid win. Independence Bowl 12/27/02 - Free Nebraska (-7) over Mississippi. 2 Units. Nebraska's ground attack should lead them to a solid victory to keep their winning season streak alive as well. Independence Bowl 12-27-02 Paid Mississippi/Nebraska Over 51. 3 Units. Neither team is good on the road going a combined 1-9 SU and 3-7 ATS on the year. Why does this matter? Neither team played defense on the road allowing much higher point totals on the road then at home. Holiday Bowl 12-27-02 Paid Arizona State (+18) over Kansas State. 2 Units. Kansas State is mad and they should not be playing in this bowl but be out there on New Years Day. Sometimes that anger will lead to a blowout and other times it will lead to a flat performance. Arizona State will be a tough team to blow out. They faced tough competition all year and were adept at making late comebacks. Arizona State's underrated defense should keep K State from blowing them out as well. 2 Team 6 Point Teaser :Arizona State (+24) and Under 68 Points. 2 Units. The scoring will not be as high as expected and 24 points is a ton of chalk to lay. Continental Tire Bowl 12-28-02 Paid West Virginia (-5) over Virginia. 3 Units. Both of these teams are a surprised to be here since neither looked to be a bowl team to begin the year. West Virginia is in it second year under a new head coach that has it going in the right direction. They were miffed to not be playing on New Years Day, but a bowl is a bowl. WVA is better on both sides of the ball and their strong ground game will tear up the Cavaliers weak rushing defense. Alamo Bowl 12-28-02 - Paid Wisconsin/Colorado over 52. 2 Units. Neither team is especially great in any one facet of the game, but both teams have generated lots of turnovers. Turnovers lead to scoring and this game will hit 60 points. Music City Bowl 12-30-02 - Paid Arkansas (-8) over Minnesota. 3 Units. Arkansas is a running team and Minnesota got killed against the run this season. Meanwhile the Razorbacks are tough against the run and that is Minnesota's preferred method of moving the ball. Mismatch with Arkansas fans having a great time in Music City. Seattle Bowl 12-30-02 - Paid Oregon (-7) over Wake Forest. 3 Units. Oregon has too much fire power with tailback Smith leading the ground attack to go with Fife and Company through the air. In addition, the Demon Deacons ground game will be attacking the strength of the Duck defense. Oregon should top 40 points in a rout against a weak Wake Defense that can't defend itself. Seattle Bowl 12-30-02 - Free Oregon/Wake Forest over 57. 2 Units. Defense is not the strength of either team in this game. 60 plus without any problems. Humanitarian Bowl 12-31-02 - Paid Iowa State (+12) over Boise State. 2 Units. We have loved Boise State all season long, but this week they are facing a huge step up in talent over their last 10 games. Iowa State will be well rested and ready to finish what once was a season of great hope on a high note. 2 Team 6 Point Teaser: Iowa State (+18) and OVER 62 for 3 Units. Boise State has had an awesome season but they have not played a team at the level of Iowa State. Iowa State stumbled down the stretch with a bad home loss to UConn to finish off the season, but this was after a very hard stretch of 4 of 5 games on the road against ranked Big 12 teams. Now that they are rested the Cyclones will definitely compete. Sun Bowl 12-31-02 - Free Washington (-3) over Purdue. 2 Units. Washington's HC has been a great bowl coach throughout his career and should have another bowl win this year. Purdue is a strange team that would have won more games if they had held on to the ball. It should be close, but Washington by a TD. Liberty Bowl 12-31-02 - Paid Colorado State (-5) over TCU. 2 Units. Colorado State will recover from their slip to finish the season against UNLV. TCU has played well but has a much weaker offense without Frosh Gunn at QB. Silicon Valley Classic 12-31-02 - Paid Georgia Tech/Fresno State under 49. 2 Units. Neither team has much offensive firepower and the strengths will lie in the defenses. Peach Bowl 12-31-02 Too Close to Call Right NOW!! San Francisco Bowl 12-31-02 (Thank GOD, a bowl game to watch during those New Years Parties) - Paid Air Force (+11.5) over Va. Tech. 3 Units. Air Force should pose an interesting challenge to Tech team playing before New Years Day for the first time in 5 years. Air Force will be pumped and maybe have more fans on hand as well against a crestfallen Hokies that lost 4 of 5 to finish the year. Air Force Straight Up for 1 Unit. Added 12-31-01 at 11 AM Outback Bowl 1-1-02 - Paid Michigan (+1) over Florida. 3 Units. Although Michigan lost to Ohio State, they still had a solid season considering they could not find a capable kicker until the end of the season. Florida is still recovering from post-Spurrier separation anxiety and Zook will not have them ready for this game. Florida was only 2-6 ATS as a favorite for the season. Michigan was 5-3 SU against bowl teams while Florida was 3-4 SU against such teams. Cotton Bowl 1-1-02 - Free Texas (-10.5) over LSU. 1 Unit. Texas is much better team on paper but they have not been able to win the big games under Mac Brown but LSU is terrible. They finished the season losing 3 of 5 games and only won the two games by a combined total of 4 points. Gator Bowl 1-1-02 - Paid Notre Dame (Pk) over NC State. 3 Units. Both teams are excited to be here which is nice to see for a Gator Bowl which has not been an interesting game for years. These teams have much more in common then most would think. They both have top 20 defenses that won games for them when the offense did not show up. They both slumped down the stretch. NC State had its redemption win when they beat Florida State the last week of the season, after having lost 3 straight to ruin a 9-0 start. Notre Dame still has the bitter taste of a blowout at USC in their mouths which will motivate them to a strong performance here against a weaker team. Capital One Bowl 1-1-02 - Paid Penn State (-6.5) over Auburn. 3 Units. Penn State has a high powered offense and a defense that can shut teams down. Auburn will not be able to handle the running game of Larry Johnson and the passing of Mills. Penn State was in every game this year while Auburn was actually blown out by Arkansas, the one primarily running team they faced this season. Rose Bowl 1-1-02 - Paid Washington St. (+7) over Oklahoma. 2 Units. Oklahoma is excited to be here going to new bowl game with a ton fans following the Sooner wagons out to Pasadena. This will be bitter sweet for Washington State since their long time HC Price will be leaving for green pastures of Alabama and they will want to send him out on top. Washington St. finally had consecutive winning seasons for the first time under Price so this team is bowl ready. Washington St. is familiar with the Rose Bowl field having won there on Dec. 7 while Oklahoma was only 3-2 SU and 1-3-1 ATS on the road. Both teams interestingly enough lost to their instate rivals late in the season in surprise upsets. Sugar Bowl 1-1-02 - Paid Georgia (-8) over Florida St. 2 Units. Georgia should be facing a better team in their bowl appearance but they will still be ready to prove their worth as a 12-1 team this season. Florida State may still be shopping for a quarterback to play tomorrow since their top two are not available for the game. Fiesta Bowl 1-3-03 - Paid Ohio State (+11.5) over Miami. 3 Units. Ohio State (SU). 1 Unit. This will be a good game, better then last night. Ohio State has a Head Coach that has experience with big games. Ohio State should win this game. Miami has been beaten for several halves of different games this season, but no team has kept it together for a whole game. Ohio State can keep the Miami offense under wraps for the whole game. Orange Bowl 1-2-03 - Paid Iowa (+4.5) over USC. 2 Units. Neither program in this game have played in a New Years Day bowl in years. USC Palmer finally fulfilled 4 years of expectations leading his team to 10-2 record and winning the Heisman. Iowa has experienced a remarkable turn around in only their year under a new regime. Both teams have great offenses, but the Bowl games have shown the strength of the Big Ten conference this season which is 4-1 while the Pac 10 is 1-5. USC maybe over confident with the big win over Notre Dame and a Heisman Trophy winner at QB. Iowa/USC over 55.5. 3 Units. Both offense are solid. USC has a better defense but Banks running threat will pose problems for the Trojans. This game should be a shootout. |
